About the Albany Edit

The Albany Edit is a resource for those renovating a period home in the UK for the first time - particularly those working with trades rather than taking a DIY approach.

It’s shaped by our own experience restoring a 1910 Edwardian doctor’s house in Cardiff. Here, we share practical insight, considered decisions, and honest reflections on what it really takes to bring an old house back to life.

Much of our day-to-day progress is shared on Instagram. But the nuances of renovation decisions rarely happen in seven second reels.

This is where that detail lives.

We’re creating the resource we wish we’d had at the start.

This site is for those navigating their own renovation - particularly period property owners trying to make good decisions without pretending to be experts. You’ll find experience-led guidance on everything from briefing architects and managing a renovation without a project manager, to choosing natural materials, sourcing reclaimed pieces, and balancing heritage with modern family life.

While the lessons are widely applicable across the UK, everything is shaped by the realities of renovating in Wales - from Cardiff townhouse proportions and local reclamation yards to the nuances of restoring traditional materials in a Welsh climate.

Alongside practical guidance, the Albany Edit also captures the thinking behind our design decisions - the materials we’re drawn to, the details we prioritise, and the kind of home we’re ultimately trying to create.

A resource first, a journal second - grounded in real experience.
